PRODUCTS / PLZ8 GERMANY

The division in postcode regions and the corresponding area boundaries are among the most important administrative classifications used for a wide variety of marketing, planning, and structuring purposes. However the postal regions are not sufficient for many small-area considerations because they are either not segmented with sufficient precision, or often they cannot be compared the differences between postcode regions vary so significantly in terms of area and population.

With the product "PLZ8 Deutschland" DDS has a geographical classification system in its offering that not only uses a smaller-scale than the official postcode regions, but through aggregating an average of 500 households in one region, its is also significantly more homogenous.

For PLZ8 the approximately 8,200 PLZ5 regions in Germany were coded with an additional 3-digit number. All postcodes were subdivided into areas that on average show 500 households, while the PLZ5 regions on average contain 10,000 inhabitants with a spread of 0 to 50,000.

For optimization some of the boundary lines are manually adjusted: Boundary-forming, linear elements such as freeways, railways, and rivers are considered in generating the PLZ8 data. For the most part, the PLZ8 boundaries are precise to the very building for all cities in Germany with more than 50,000 inhabitants; for all other regions they were generated with street section precision.

The more than 82,000 data sets of "PLZ8 DEUTSCHLAND" with their 8-digit key numbers can be aggregated with the higher-level two, three, or five-digit PLZ boundaries and with a wide variety of attribute data as desired.
